The Millennium Falcon ride at Disney World’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is…

I did it! I went to the greatest spectacle to hit Disney’s Hollywood Studios since the addition of Muppet 3D (which was what I told the guy at the turn style I was going to see when I got there). You might be thinking, “woah, wait a second, didn’t they add a new slinky dog coaster just recently?” Yes they did but I’m an adult so I am out of the toy stage. I’m a big boy who only gets excited when I see a wookie or a beeping robot. Which brings me to the coolest part of Galaxy’s Edge — they have a robot building area and R2-D2 is just sitting there by the checkout counter rolling around and beeping for you to take pictures with. I don’t know why but after my kids got their photo with him we caught eyes…well eyes and lights… and he rolled over to me whistling and we took a picture. For just a second he was my droid and we were going on an adventure across the galaxy to stop the galactic empire! Then my wife brought me back to Earth. I remembered I had to pay bills and had to be at the office the next day by 7:30am. I reached for my flask.

The Millennium Falcon ride was a 45 minute wait which is considerably nothing. When you go in they do that thing new rides do where they go over what is going to happen in a separate room so you feel like you are on the ride instead of waiting another 20 minutes. You get an assigned position: pilot, gunner or engineer. So if you have multiple kids or get on the ride with two strangers you better hope you get pilot. Imagine the horror of some basement geek getting to fly the Millennium Falcon when your kid gets stuck being an engineer and it’s your one and only time at Disney because you’re from Minnesota and saved 15 years to get there. My wife and I were pilots and she pilots the Millennium Falcon about as well as a Ford Focus so we barely made it out alive. Anyway the ride wasn’t bad but the best part came right before the ride, but after you got your assignments.     The wait to start the ride is inside the main Millennium Falcon room. It’s the basically like sitting in a Delorean if you’re a Back to the Future fan. Or riding a horse if you’re a Seabiscut fan! You can take photos and get a look at the great detail.

Enjoy your ride. I certainly did.
